Lower School Winter Enrichments

Monday

Little Bakers

Tighten your aprons for a fun hour of making and baking sweets and savory treats. Kids will use math and measurements to ensure their recipes turn out delicious! Students will have the opportunity to design and decorate their treats. Bakers will also create their own recipe books to share with friends and family.

Tangible Coding Dojo

  • Computational Logic of CS: Using Dot & Dash Robots, students will problem solve, create, and work together, to code with the app, “Blockify” to complete a variety of different challenges that teach students about variables, loops, creating functions, data values, and more.
  • Social Problem-Solving: In groups of 3-4, students will troubleshoot, problem solve, and cooperate in order to complete the coding challenges.  Students will also be playing coding board games which encourage them to work together

Kung Fu Seminar

Students young and old embrace a way of life full of confidence, discipline and self control that enhances mind, body and spirit. This Monday seminar class is designed as an introductory exploration of Kung Fu for new students. Children will be focused on improving their strength, spontaneous reaction, hand eye coordination, and self-defense skills.  This class is also great for kids that are already in other martial arts schools because it will help them advance in their own practice outside of our program.

Moving Toys

In moving toys kids will make everything from shadow puppets to self propelled cars! They’ll learn a ‘no waste’ approach to toy making. Together we’ll build toys from used old bottles, recycled cardboard and other ‘junk’ we find! Kids will use their own creativity to help individualize each project!

3D Printing

Unlock your imagination in the 3D printing club! In this enrichment you’ll learn what 3D printers can make, how they work, and how to create your own designs that can be 3D printed! The possibilities are endless so sign up for the 3D printing club if you want to push your creativity to the limit!

Artful Science

Explore how art and science go hand in hand. Make an abstract painting with a pendulum while learning about gravity and motion. Create watercolors from flower petals.Observe chemical reactions with baking soda and vinegar while producing a mixed media painting.

Calling all Muggles fascinated by the world of Hogwarts!  Come and join us as we delve into the magical world of Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry.  Make potions, learn how to play Quidditch for Muggles (no broomsticks required) , explore the language of spells and enchantments and much more.

Tree Frog Treks

Tree Frog Treks teaches fun interactive science enrichment programs that introduce kids to concepts in biology, chemistry, physics, earth sciences and natural history. This class will allow them to meet live reptiles and amphibians face-to-face. We’ve developed themed curricula that covers integrated science topics and reinforce learning through hands-on science experiments, art projects, movement and song.

Spy Class
Agent 74 is back on the scene for another exciting fall filled with fresh spy skills, games, gadgets and challenges. Grab your walkie-talkies and your sunglasses and get ready to make your mark as a rising secret agent but don’t leave any finger prints behind. Join the fun in teamwork challenge games, capture the flag contests, ninja-style agility and obstacle courses, parabolic microphones, punch pad practice, noodle hops, foam battle sticks and flying eyes in the sky. Take aim with your nano bow and build your own paracord bolos. Don’t miss the action.

Ceramic Clay

Learn hand building techniques for sculpture or functional objects using terra cotta or white low fire clay. Learn several surface techniques to create relief or incised designs. See how glazes change during firing and learn to load the kiln.

  • Computational Logic of Computer Science: Using Coding Boardgames, ipads, & robots, students will learn the basics of Computer Programming.  Student’s will gain an understanding of sprites, variables, loops, and functions by coding their very own stories and games.
  • Ninja Clan Skills:  Code NinjaZ curriculum promotes cooperative social development by encouraging students to problem solve and debug their code together.

Stop Motion Animation

Stop motion animation is a fun, unique, and creative way to make movies or short films. In this class we’ll make our own short films from scratch, including writing the story, making our own characters out of clay, filming, and editing! This enrichment gives students a unique opportunity to learn about stop motion animation, flex their creative muscle when developing a story, and create a finished product they can be proud of.

Maximum Moviemaking

Every wanted to star in a movie? Now you can! This class is both for kids who are expert moviemakers and beginners too. Working as a crew, children will use their imaginations to think up a movie idea, learn to storyboard their ideas, create costumes and props, plan for special effects and even do simple stunts. Each student receives a DVD copy of the movie to bring home.
