Annual Fund

The CDS Annual Fund supports all of the things that make CDS such a unique place for our students—from our diverse community to our teaching philosophy of “learning by doing”—and it is our most important fundraising effort each year. This year, your contributions enable our teachers to implement best practices in the classroom and support the academic growth of our students.

Why Give?
  • CDS, like most independent schools, intentionally sets tuition below the full cost of an education to keep the school more affordable to a wider range
 of families. Tuition covers roughly 85% of our operating budget and with the gap between tuition and the real cost of education close to $2,500 per child, we rely on the Annual Fund to help cover the rest. 
  • While every gift is a personal decision, we encourage families to be as generous as possible. Gifts range from under $1,000 to over $25,000. While leadership gifts of $5,000 are critical to the financial stability of the school, gifts of all sizes make a lasting impact on our students. Our goal is 100% family participation, which visibly demonstrates our community’s dedication to the school and provides inspiration to other funders.
Other Ways to Give
  • Many corporations offer matching gift programs for employees and their families to CDS. These gifts allow you to greatly increase your gift to the school. Supporters will be recognized at the level of their total giving, including any matching gifts. Click here for a list of employers who match.
  • Giving a gift of stock benefits donors and CDS. In most cases, donors do not have to pay capital gains on the transfer of securities that have been held for at least a year. You may also give through a check or a donor-advised fund (DAF), a type of giving program that allows you to combine the most favorable tax benefits. Explore all the ways of giving or contact Jeanna Yoo at jeannay@cds-sf.org for more information.
