Digital Innovators and Makers

Vision.

Digital Innovation at Children's Day School equips young thinkers and doers with emergent tools and models of inquiry that develop visionary change-makers.
In alignment with CDS' mission, beliefs, and values, digital innovation provides students with opportunities to become healthy digital natives, powerful storytellers, inspired innovators, ethical change agents, and engaged contributors to local and global conversations of importance.

Upon graduation, CDS eighth graders have the confidence to navigate, create, adapt, and invent with digital tools while staying grounded in who they are.

Curriculum.

Digital tools are thoughtfully integrated into CDS coursework, inviting students to pursue creative practices such as photography, video and audio recording, ebook and podcast creation, and design.
Training in computational thinking and digital literacy familiarizes students with digital hardware and software, online platforms, and best practices with information and communication technologies.

Here are some examples of digital innovation at all of our division levels:

  • In our Early Childhood Program, students create photos, videos, music, and voice recordings to explore storytelling, identity, imagination, environmental citizenship, and community.
  • In the Lower School, students create persuasive posters and PSAs, podcasts, stop-motion animations, vlogs, and design and coding projects that demonstrate learning in all areas of the curriculum including writing, math, science, social studies, Spanish, PE, and our Farm & Garden.
  • At the Middle School, students work with digital devices in the Innovation Lab, using technology such as a laser cutter, 3D printer, and circuit-building materials. Self-expression and community engagement are supported through integrated project-based learning, the drama program, and regular Project Day activities.
