Diwali Symbolizes the Victory of Light over Darkness and Good Over Evil

At CDS, one of our core beliefs is that “Differences Lift Us.” This belief shapes our choices and fosters a school culture of inclusivity and acceptance. We know that each member of our school community brings a unique set of lived experiences, perspectives, and cultural backgrounds so we work to embrace these differences to enhance the overall educational experience of all. We know that we are collectively working to prepare our students to be engaged citizens of the world, and our observance of Diwali is just one example of how we work intensively to cultivate global understanding and appreciation. 

Diwali, a festival of triumph of light over darkness and good over evil, was very much welcomed by our school community, especially in these times of uncertainty and challenge. The festivities began last week, which included educational workshops and activities in the classrooms, an all-school morning assembly led by our South Asian Affinity group, and an evening event open to the broader community. This community event not only showcased the diverse tapestry of our students but also underscored the profound value of promoting cultural inclusivity and understanding. It provided a unique opportunity for our students, parents, and faculty to come together and gain firsthand insights into the traditions, customs, and significance of Diwali. 

Celebrating Diwali is a reflection of our commitment to cultural awareness and the importance of respecting and appreciating differences. This season, we were again reminded of the beauty of diversity and the power of people from different backgrounds coming together to inspire hope, joy, and connection.
