Marching for Change: School Community on MLK Day!

At CDS, we believe that differences lift us! Our community is woven together with families from a range of socioeconomic backgrounds, nationalities, cultures, races, faiths, sexual orientations, and gender identities. We believe our differences lift us as people and as learners! 

On Monday, January 15th, it was heartwarming to see our school community gather in support of the principles that defined the civil rights movement. Our middle school students prepared in advance the very touching signs used in the march that shared their messages of hope. Students carried the signs boldly and proudly as they marched alongside parents, teachers, and friends from the San Francisco Caltrain Station to the serene Yerba Buena Gardens. Our community marched in solidarity with thousands of others from the broader community, as a collective expression of our shared commitment to equality, justice, and social change. 

After the march, the CDS contingency gathered to participate in a holistic commemoration to reflect on the significance of the march and the principles advocated by Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. We were encouraged by city officials who provided insights from years past while encouraging everyone to channel their energy towards progress and moving forward. We all absorbed the words of wisdom and recommitted to continuing to carry the spirit of unity and community back into our daily lives.

In this spirit of unity and community, our collective experience displayed the strength and resilience of CDS. We remain steadfast in our commitment to embracing differences, for we know that they elevate us as compassionate humans and lifelong learners; qualities needed to be the positive change in the world that we all want to see!
