Theater Students Travel Through Time and Space

Our new After-School Theater Club, made up of middle school students under the direction of Associate Teacher & SEL Program Assistant Hannah Michahelles, is working on a production of Morgan Gould’s stage adaptation of Wrinkle. In order to give everyone an opportunity to join in, the students have split into two separate ensembles which will be rehearsing and performing on different days. They’re enjoying the challenge of carrying the fantastic visuals of a science fiction story over to a live performance, working with the tech team and other students to create sound, lighting, and projection effects that can convey time and space travel.

The students are finding plenty of material to connect with in the play. “The actors are wrestling with big emotions about losing people they love, feeling different and alone, maintaining optimism through hardship, and finding friends who love you for who you are,” Hannah told us. Part of our mission at CDS is to work as a community to develop a sense of belonging and trust for everyone, and the values of collaboration and acceptance can be found both in the play itself and in the way it’s being created.
